Robins soar after injury-time strike

Brooker: Last-gasp winner

Brooker, who only returned from a loan spell at Cheltenham last week where he was building up his match fitness following double knee surgery in the summer, headed home Michael McIndoe's cross in the third minute of injury time.

It was his first goal for the club since scoring in a 3-3 FA Cup third round tie against Coventry in January 2007.

It looked like the game was heading for a draw after Darren Huckerby had cancelled out Dele Adebola's opening goal for the hosts.

Adebola had the simple task of poking the ball home from close range in the 41st minute after David Marshall had parried McIndoe's header into his path.

But Huckerby's first goal for almost four months midway through the second half restored parity.

Huckerby stroked the ball beyond Adriano Basso from 12 yards out following good work on the left-hand side from Ryan Bertrand.

Gary Johnson admitted this week that his players were feeling the pressure as the race for the Premier League entered its final furlongs, and the City boss made five changes in a bid to halt the Robins' five-game winless streak.

Defender Jamie McCombe returned from injury while David Noble, Lee Johnson, Cole Skuse and Scott Murray - who made his first start since October 2 - were all recalled in midfield as Johnson opted for a 4-5-1 formation.

The outgoing players were Tamas Vasko, Marvin Elliott, Nick Carle, Ivan Sproule and Lee Trundle.

Norwich manager Glenn Roeder made one change. Gary Doherty suffered a back injury against Colchester so Alex Pearce stepped in.

The hosts started brightest and Bradley Orr forced Marshall to parry his shot from the edge of the area in the 17th minute.

But it was Norwich who almost opened the scoring when Dion Dublin's header rebounded back off the crossbar midway through the first half.

McCombe hit the post for the Robins with a 20-yard shot moments before Adebola struck his 11th goal of the season.

Former Bristol Rovers striker Jamie Cureton almost brought Norwich level early in the second half when he cut inside from a wide position and flashed an angled shot just past the far post.

The Canaries continued to apply pressure as they searched for an equaliser, with Dublin and substitute Lee Croft both going close before the hour mark.

Their persistence was rewarded in the 70th minute when Huckerby ended his goal drought.

It was the winger's first goal since scoring from the penalty spot in a 2-1 home win over Plymouth on December 4.

Sproule failed to extend Marshall with a couple of late efforts before fellow substitute Brooker shot wildly over the crossbar from 30-yards.

However, Brooker had the last word when he scored the winning goal.
