CAPTAIN MONK OUT OF CUP CLASH

Monk - suspended for cup game.

Swansea boss Roberto Martinez will be without skipper Garry Monk when his side host Brentford in their Carling Cup first round tie.

Monk will serve a one-match ban after he was dismissed for two bookable offences in their Championship opener against Charlton on Saturday.

Gorka Pintado and Angel Rangel are both sidelined with groin problems, with the latter expected to return within the next fortnight.

Striker Jason Scotland, who has recently recovered from a groin injury, could be in line for a start after a brief 14 minutes cameo at the Valley.

Federico Bessone, Albert Serran and Stefan Morrison are in contention to make their competitive debuts for the Swans after missing out on Saturday.

Brentford defender Sam Wood faces a late fitness test ahead of the clash.

The summer signing from Bromley suffered an ankle knock during Saturday's defeat by Bury and was replaced by Brett Johnson.

Striker Charlie MacDonald, another close-season recruit from Southend, will have to wait a little longer for his debut having failed to recover from a groin injury in time.

Gary Smith is still struggling with the knock which kept him out at the weekend and Ryan Dickson remains a doubt with a back problem.

Boss Andy Scott has added youngsters Lewis Ochoa and Fraser Franks to the squad with seven substitutes allowed in the competition this season.
