The Moose Gossip

HENRY WON'T REALLY GO TO MANYOO, WILL HE?
Pants are wet all round on Fleet Street this morning after Alex Ferguson's cheeky dodge of the Thierry Henry question.

The Sun spins Fergie's words as a 'taunt' to Spurs, making them 'sweat' over a potential move for Dimitar Berbatov.

If you missed them, here's what Sir said when asked about Henry: "We have one or two options we're looking at and it's possible we'll sign someone this week.

"The striker's position is something that's been pressing since the end of last season but now there is some light at the end of the tunnel."

But seriously, Henry to United? Seems silly to us, and obviously Ferguson has played this game before. However, all the more serious papers seem to be taking it, well, seriously, and we do have to remember this column poured laughing scorn on the very idea of Robbie Keane signing for Liverpool, so we'll stay quiet for now.

BERBA STAYING AT SPURS?
The word in various papers this morning is that Dimitar Berbatov is not one of the options in Fergie's sights.

The Guardian quotes Ferguson as saying: "There is nothing at all to say about Berbatov. We're looking at options elsewhere."

Combine that with words from Magic Juande Ramos, who said after Spurs spanked Roma 5-0 yesterday: "I would be absolutely delighted if Berbatov was still at the club after the end of the transfer window.

"He is a magnificent player and we want to enjoy another season of him at this club. I can't answer on behalf of the player, though."

So does this mean Berba will be staying, or is it just another of Fergie's dastardly games?

KAKA ON WAY TO THE BRIDGE?
The Daily Star seems pretty convinced that Kaka is indeed on his way to Chelsea.

They claim a £78million deal is in the bag, and use quotes apparently half-inched from The Observer yesterday from the Brazilian's personal assistant, who they initially identify as his agent:

"We know that the clubs are talking about the transfer, although they have not reached a conclusion yet.

"I think an August transfer is still a possibility, though Kaka will only talk about that when they do a deal."

WHO IS THE 'EXPERIENCED' MIDFIELDER
The papers over the weekend seem pretty convinced that Arsenal would be signing Swiss midfielder Gokhan Inler, and while The Daily Telegraph still entertains that possibility, they throw the name 'Ruben de la Red' back into the mix as well.

They're presumably encouraged by Arsene Wenger's comments about Inler yesterday, when he said: "It is not necessarily the Swiss boy, though. I cannot tell you more about him than anybody else."

VAGNER LUUURRRVE FOR EVERTON?
Word in The Guardian this morn is that David Moyes will make the tremendously named Vagner Love the first of his 'five or six' signings at Goodison Park.

They reckon it will be a permanent deal, but The Daily Mirror thinks a loan move is far more likely.

However, in not quite so good news for Toffees, The Daily Mail claims Alan Smith will join in the next few days.

Swings and roundabouts, eh?
