CAMPBELL TO BE MAKEWEIGHT IN BERBATOV DEAL
The News of the World is predicting that Dimi Berbatov will sign for ManYoo before the transfer window closes on Monday night and reckons that the deal will be sealed by Fraizer Campbell moving to White Hart Lane.
'Spurs' interest in £7m-rated Campbell will break the summer-long deadlock between the two clubs and Berbatov is expected to finalise personal terms with United on Sunday,' it announces.
After weeks of wrangling, the deal is said to have been struck when ManYoo chief executive David Gill met Spurs officials in Monaco last week after the Champions League and UEFA Cup draws.
WE'LL BE HONEST WITH YOU
There's so much contradictory stuff about the possibility of Andrei Arshavin moving to Tottenham that we have no the foggiest idea what's going on.
DIARRA TO JOIN YET ANOTHER NEW CLUB
The People's lead story this Sunday is that 'Lassana Diarra will sign for Tottenham tomorrow if cashstrapped Portsmouth fail to offload a number of squad players.'
To quote a little more:
'Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is faced with having to cash in on his star man after being told by the board to slash the wage bill.
'Redknapp now has until the transfer window shuts at midnight tomorrow to flog a fringe player such as Richard Hughes or accept a £12million bid from Tottenham for midfielder Diarra. Juande Ramos is desperately looking to add some steel to his midfield and Diarra fits the bill.'
Diarra only joined Pompey in January having only joined Arsenal approximately 364 days ago. He must be a multi-millionaire through signing-on fees alone.
ARSENAL STILL IN FOR ALONSO
Talking of midfielders and Arsenal, the Sunday Times is still expecting Arsenal to make a move for Liverpool's Xabi Alonso.
'Alonso, who won Euro 2008 with Spain two months ago, has fallen out with Rafael Benitez and would welcome the move,' the newspaper declares. Speaking after the win over Newcastle, Arsene Wenger confirmed that the Gunners were still hunting for a new midfielder, commenting: "We are trying to buy but the problem is availability, as well as the fact we have to find players better or as good as the ones we have."
BENITEZ ONLY WANTS RIERA
Rafa Benitez has confirmed that Riera is set to be the one and only player Liverpool sign on the final day of the current transfer window.
The winger has undergone his medical at Pool's training base and should put pen to paper on an £8m transfer on Monday.
"We are now to concentrating on Riera," said Benitez. "We were talking about balance and tactically we needed a left-winger and that is why we were looking for a good player in this position.
'He had an average season but City wanted to buy the player and couldn't afford the price. Now it's clear he has more experience, is more mature. All the reports we have from the scouts are good, but also speaking with people in Spain and also team-mates of his they all say he is a very good player."
