Rutten - side lost 4-0 to Atletico Madrid.
Schalke coach Fred Rutten has told his players to forget about their Champions League mauling at the hands of Atletico Madrid and focus on moving to the top of the Bundesliga at the weekend.
The Royal Blues were dumped out of the Champions League by the Primera Liga side on Wednesday, losing 4-0 in the Spanish capital after claiming a narrow 1-0 advantage in the first leg.
Schalke will now play in the UEFA Cup this season, but Rutten does not want his side to suffer any hangover from the defeat.
"At this level, small things can make the difference," he explained. "Atletico took their chances today but we unfortunately did not.
"Obviously this defeat hurts the fans and the team, but we have an important game in the Bundesliga and we have got to be in good condition.
"We have got to forget about this quickly and get on with it."
Schalke host local rivals Bochum at the Arena AufSchalke on Saturday. Rutten's men are second in the table with four points from two games.
