ROVERS SIGN ANDREWS

Andrews - looks set to join Blackburn.

Blackburn have completed the signing of MK Dons midfielder Keith Andrews on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old captained the Dons to both the Coca-Cola League Two title and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last season under Rovers manager Paul Ince and will be reunited at Ewood Park.

Andrews was named the League Two player of the season last year and scored 21 goals in 87 appearances for the club.

He was transfer listed by the Coca-Cola League One club in the summer as speculation linking him with a move to Rovers intensified.

Ince said: "I am pleased I've signed Keith - he's another good acquisition to the squad and he is a very good player if you look at his performances as captain of MK Dons last year.

"He is one of those players we haven't got who can get into the box and score goals. I don't care what anyone says, if you score 13 or 14 goals from midfield in League One then you can obviously step up to the Premier League with better players.

"So I am confident he will be very good for us. If you look at someone like Steven Reid, who was at Millwall and rose quickly to play for his country and in the Premier League, so it can happen.

"There are a lot of quality players in the lower leagues and I think sometimes when you are in the top flight and you have so much more money at your disposal, then you tend to look abroad or pick players in the £6million-£7million bracket.

"But sometimes you can just look in the lower leagues and there are just as good players. If you look at Michael Kightly at Wolves, who came from Grays, and there are clubs who would now pay £6million for the lad.

"He's serious about his football, had a good year last year and I'm confident he can make the step up to the Premier League."

A statement from the Dons read: "While disappointed to lose our club captain, we understand that the chance for Keith to test himself in the greatest league in the world is too good to ignore.

"We wish Keith every success in his future career and he will always be welcomed back to stadium:mk - either as a player or a friend of the club."

Dons boss Roberto di Matteo said: "It is going to take time to see how much he'll be missed here and obviously you know the transfer window closes in a few days, so there is not much time left.

"But I guess the chairman will be happy he has got a richer bank account and we will see what we can do.

"I would have been happier if it hadn't dragged on for so long, it hasn't been an ideal situation I have to say, but we just get on with life."
