Vaughan is sent off.

James Vaughan was sent off as Everton went down 2-0 to Chicago Fire in the first game of their tour of America.

Goals either side of half-time from Chris Wolfe and Tomasz Frankowski proved to be enough for the MLS side.

Everton thought they should have had a penalty four minutes before the break when Yakubu Aiyegbeni appeared to be felled in the box.

Seconds later Chicago Fire broke the deadlock when Wolfe slotted home Patrick Nyarko's cross.

Chicago doubled their lead midway though the second-half when Frankowski scored from close range after Tim Howard could only parry Peter Lowry's shot.

Everton's miserable night was compounded late on when substitute Vaughan was shown a straight red card for a late foul on Daniel Woolard.

It means that Vaughan could miss the start of the new season through suspension if the dismissal is reported to the Football Association.
