PORTSMOUTH v CARDIFF MIN-BY-MIN

PORTSMOUTH v CARDIFF MIN-BY-MIN

37 mins: Kanu strikes Pompey 1-0 up.

FT: Portsmouth 1 Cardiff 0

90+4 mins: Cardiff swing in the corner but the final whistle goes and it's all over. Portsmouth have won the FA Cup. It's not been a classic but Pompey have done enough. They'll now be playing in Europe next season. Kanu's goal settled the game but the centreback pairing of Campbell and Distin deserve the plaudits.

90+4 mins: A stunning block from Glen Johnson stops his namesake Roger Johnson from grabbing a last-gasp equaliser for Cardiff. The chance came after the freekick and the ball is eventually hacked out for a Cardiff corner.

90+3 mins: Diarra goes into the book for a foul but more significantly it's a freekick in a dangerous area to Cardiff.

90+2 mins: The freekick goes straight to Enckelman who immediately punts it upfield but it goes all the way through to James.

90+1 mins: It's a freekick to Portsmouth after Ramsey fouls Bouba Diop. That's going to waste valuable time for Cardiff.

90 mins: Portsmouth break clear through Baros and he wins a corner which will use up vital seconds. Pompey then hold the ball up near the corner flag and win another flagkick. Cardiff eventually win the ball back but they have just four minutes of added time to find the equaliser.

89 mins: Ramsey so nearly makes a name for himself as he has two chances in quick succession inside the Portsmouth area. However he elects to pass on the first occasion and then sees his shot blocked.

88 mins: We're into the final three minutes now and Baros makes his presence felt immediately as he forces Cardiff to play it all the way back to Enckelman.

87 mins: There's also a final substitution for Portsmouth, with goalscorer Kanu getting a great ovation as he trots off to be replaced by Milan Baros.

86 mins: Cardiff make their final change as Trevor Sinclair comes on for Rae.

85 mins: That would have been one of the great FA Cup final goals from Distin but Johnson's tackle has kept Cardiff's hopes alive.

84 mins: Distin produces a stunning run, powering from inside his own half right into the Cardiff area but a fantastic tackle from Roger Johnson just prevents him from rounding it off in style.

83 mins: Portsmouth break from that corner and Kanu almost finds a way through but McNaughton does just enough and eventually wins a freekick.

82 mins: Ramsey wins a throw for Cardiff near the right corner flag. Capaldi takes it but two towering headers from Campbell allow Portsmouth to clear. The big defender has had a great game.

81 mins: Good defending from Glen Johnson sees him shepherd the ball out for a goalkick despite being put under strong pressure from Ledley.

80 mins: Thompson is making his presence felt for Cardiff but he goes a step too far on this occasion and is penalised for a foul which allows Portsmouth to clear.

79 mins: Distin is forced to concede a corner and it so nearly leads to an equaliser from Cardiff but Loovens' header into the ground bounces over the bar.

78 mins: Harry Redknapp looks to tighten things up for Portsmouth as he sends on Papa Bouba Diop for Mendes.

77 mins: It's a decent spell of pressure for Cardiff and there's almost a half chance for Thompson but Campbell just gets to the ball first.

76 mins: There's a chance for another long throw from Capaldi but Portsmouth eventually scramble the ball clear.

75 mins: Cardiff have just 15 minutes left to try and force extra-time. It's still relatively open but in truth they haven't really worked David James in the second half.

74 mins: A mistake by Glen Johnson almost lets in Cardiff but the Pompey defender reacts quickly and hacks the ball out for a corner. His namesake Roger Johnson again gets his head on the ball when it's played in from the corner but he can't direct it goalwards.

73 mins: Kanu is penalised for an over-zealous challenge on Loovens.

72 mins: It's almost a spectacular introduction for Nugent as he breaks into the area and lashes in a right-footed volley from a tight angle which Enckelman is forced to turn around the post.

71 mins: That proves to be Hasselbaink's last piece of action as his number goes up on the subs board and Steven Thompson takes his place up front for Cardiff.

70 mins: Ramsey tries to play in Hasselbaink but the outstanding Campbell is again to the fore as he gets in first.

69 mins: Portsmouth now make their first change as David Nugent joins the fray in place of Utaka. He seems to slot straight into his position out on the right.

68 mins: McPhail launches the ball forward for Cardiff looking for Parry but Campbell heads clear.

67 mins: Cardiff aren't helping themselves at the moment and McNaughton's clearance goes straight to Kanu.

66 mins: It's a freekick to Portsmouth on the halfway line but Sylvain Distin's ball to Utaka is too strong and drifts out of play for a Cardiff goalkick.

65 mins: Kanu holds the ball up well for Portsmouth who are keeping possession with relative ease at the moment and play it all the way back to James.

64 mins: Ramsey gets an early touch and wins a freekick for Cardiff just inside the Pompey half.

63 mins: Muntari, Kanu and Mendes all link up well but a great tackle from McNaughton on Diarra breaks up the latest Portsmouth attack.

62 mins: Johnson tries to dink the ball into Kanu inside the area but Loovens stretches well to intercept.

61 mins: The change now comes from Cardiff as Ramsey replaces Whittingham.

60 mins: A foul by Muntari means it's a freekick to Cardiff but the offside flag goes up against Parry.

59 mins: We're approaching the hour mark and Cardiff look poised to make a change, with youngster Aaron Ramsey getting ready on the touchline.

58 mins: Utaka now gallops clear down the right but just takes a touch too many and Cardiff are able to win back possession. Utaka has stayed on the turf after that run but he's soon back on his feet and able to continue.

57 mins: Portsmouth are looking dangerous on the break as the game opens up and Kranjcar and Muntari now link up well but Cardiff regroup to clear the danger.

56 mins: There's a disputed corner for Portsmouth and Enckelman again elects to punch clear. Ther ball then drops to Muntari 30 yards out and he swings in a powerful left-footed shot but it's always just going over the bar.

55 mins: A more positive contribution from Kranjcar this time forces Loovens into a foul.

54 mins: Enckelman punches the corner clear but as Whittingham breaks for Cardiff he's cynically brought down by Kranjcar. The Pompey man rightly goes into the book for that - there was no attempt to play the ball.

53 mins: Lovely play from Diarra sees Portsmouth break clear and he lays the ball back for Kanu but his shot from 14 yards out is deflected out for a corner by Loovens.

52 mins: McNaughton charges forward from right back for Cardiff but straight into Muntari and Portsmouth bring it clear.

51 mins: Utaka clatters into Ledley which means it's a freekick to Cardiff just to the left of the Pompey area. Roger Johnson again manages to get his head to the ball first but it's deflected out by Sol Campbell. Inexplicably a goalkick is the decision of referee Dean.

50 mins: The Pompey freekick is headed clear and Whittingham brings the ball clear but his long ball upfield never looks like reaching a teammate.

49 mins: Portsmouth are passing the ball around nicely and Cardiff's frustration shows when three players go in on Diarra, leading to a Pompey freekick.

48 mins: There's a brief hold up in play after Mike Dean decides the ball needs to be changed.

47 mins: Good work from Glen Johnson just prevents the ball going out for a corner. Cardiff instead have to settle for another long throw from Capaldi which Portsmouth are able to head clear.

46 mins: We're back under way at Wembley, with Cardiff trying to become the first side this season to prevent Portsmouth from converting a 1-0 lead into a victory. Neither team has made any changes at the break.

HT: Portsmouth 1 Cardiff 0:

45+2 mins: That was a dramatic end to the first half but it ends with Portsmouth's 1-0 lead intact. It's been a decent game so far and Cardiff will probably feel slightly unlucky not to be level. Neither goalkeeper has been especially convincing but Enckelman is the man who has been punished.

45+1 mins: The freekick leads to a corner and Cardiff have the ball in the Portsmouth net when Loovens hooks it into the goal but he's penalised for handball. It looks the correct decision.

45+1 mins: Hermann Hreidarsson becomes the first player to be booked after he shows dissent when Cardiff are awarded a freekick.

45 mins: Ledley is back on his feet and play resumes. There will be one minute of added time.

44 mins: Johnson gets a lecture from referee Mike Dean for that foul on Ledley but no action is taken.

43 mins: We're back under way but play is soon halted again after Johnson catches Ledley and the Cardiff man stays down.

42 mins: We've got a slight stoppage as McPhail requires some treatment to a mouth injury.

41 mins: A handball from Mendes gives Cardiff a freekick just inside their own half but Pompey soon win back possession.

40 mins: The Pompey fans are in fantastic voice right now after seeing their team go in front. It's also worth mentioning that Portsmouth have won on all 20 occasions they've taken the lead this season.

39 mins: Cardiff so nearly level straight away as Parry surges clear down the left and plays the ball across the area but it's just a fraction too far in front of Kevin McNaughton's despairing drive.

38 mins: It's a slightly strange celebration from Kanu but there's no doubting the quality of that goal from Portsmouth who carved Cardiff open. Enckelman hasn't had the greatest of games so far but the cross from Utaka was a tricky one to deal with.

37 mins: GOAL - KANU. Great work from Diarra plays in Utaka down the right and Enckelman can only palm the ball straight to Kanu who gratefully prods it home.

35 mins: The ball drops to Mendes 30 yards out but his first-time effort is straight at Enckelman.

34 mins: Johnson does really well to create some space on the right and fizz in a dangerous-looking cross but this time Enckelman is far more convincing as he punches the ball clear.

33 mins: There's almost a half chance for Hasselbaink but he's crowded out and Portsmouth break swiftly, working the ball to Kanu who cuts in from the left and curls in a shot but it's a couple of yards wide.

32 mins: The freekick is lumped upfield hopefully by Portsmouth but comes to nothing. It's hard to tell which side is the Premier League outfit at the moment.

31 mins: Gavin Rae gives away a freekick just inside the Portsmouth half after a meaty chalenge on Mendes.

30 mins: The opening half hour is up and Cardiff have more than matched Portsmouth so far. The best chance has fallen to the favourites though when Kanu could only find the post rather than the back of the net.

29 mins: The ball is floated into the Portsmouth area and towards Hasselbaink but his header drifts through straight to James.

28 mins: Whittingham tries to guide the ball through to Hasselbaink but Campbell has been a rock at the back so far for Portsmouth and he's again equal to the challenge.

27 mins: Another freekick to Cardiff, again out on the left and midway inside the Pompey half, finds Johnson but his glancing header just goes over the bar.

26 mins: The corner clears everyone and bounces out for a Portsmouth goalkick.

25 mins: Another great long ball from Ledley causes Portsmouth problems and Campbell is again forced to concede a corner.

24 mins: It's a freekick to Cardiff after a foul on Ledley by Johnson. It's just to the left of the area and is played to Parry who is unmarked but his low left-footed shot is charged down.

23 mins: The closest we've come to a goal as Kanu shows some lovely skill to beat first Glenn Loovens and then Enckelman but he then somehow slices it onto the wrong side of the post from a couple of yards out. It was a tight angle but it should still have been the game's opening goal.

22 mins: It's a freekick inside their own half to Cardiff after John Utaka clatters into Hasselbaink.

21 mins: The corner is too close to James and the Pompey keeper gathers with ease.

20 mins: Whittingham takes the freekick and almost finds Roger Johnson who has sneaked around the back but Campbell is alive to the danger and heads out for a corner.

19 mins: It's a freekick to Cardiff midway inside the Portsmouth half after a foul from Diarra.

18 mins: Capaldi's long throws are going to be a real threat to Portsmouth but on this occasion they are able to head clear.

17 mins: There's a lull in the play now as a punt downfield from Enckelman bobbles out for a Portsmouth throw.

16 mins: That was a warning for Cardiff but until that point they'll have been happy with their start because they've looked the brghter side.

15 mins: It's Portsmouth who now go close to breaking the deadlock when Enckelman fumbles a freekick but Kanu can't quite turn the rebound home. It wasn't a great piece of keeping and Cardiff are lucky to escape.

14 mins: It's another half chance for Cardiff when the ball drops to Whittingham just inside the area but his shot is deflected out of play by his teammate Parry.

13 mins: That was a great chance for Cardiff but James did really well to react so quickly.

12 mins: Parry gets in behind the Pompey defence after a cute ball from Ledley but James is out quickly to smother.

11 mins: A lovely ball over the top from Ledley almost finds Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink but it skips off the slick turf and bounces out of play.

10 mins: That last passage of play was typical of the opening stages - Cardiff have been the sharper side so far.

9 mins: Niko Kranjcar brings the ball clear for Portsmouth and finds Pedro Mendes but his pass is intercepted by Joe Ledley.

8 mins: Kanu works the ball to Glen Johnson out on the right and he manages to get in a cross but it's deflected out of the area.

7 mins: Cardiff have settled well and they are pinning Pompey back at the moment. Stephen McPhail threads forward a decent-looking ball but it's cut out by Sol Campbell.

6 mins: Portsmouth clear the corner and break swiftly but the Bluebirds just regroup in time to snuff out the danger.

5 mins: Another long throw from Tony Capaldi sends Cardiff down deep inside the Poertsmouth area and Mendes is then forced to head out for the game's first corner.

4 mins: The early signs are encouraging as it's been an open start. Portsmouth are passing the ball around well but on this occasion are forced to go all the way back to James.

3 mins: David James is in the action straight away too as he has to react quickly to intercept a long ball intended for Paul Parry. It's a throw to Cardiff but Portsmouth head clear.

2 mins: A scything run from Lassana Diarra gets Portsmouth off to a bright start and they win a freekick when he's tripped by Peter Whittingham 40 yards out. Sulley Muntari powers in a hopeful shot which is deflected but at least makes Peter Enckelman work.

1 min: Portsmouth get us under way in the first FA Cup final for 17 years that doesn't feature a member of the Premier League's 'big four'. Portsmouth start as odds-on favourites but there have been so many shocks in this season's competition so that doesn't count for a great deal.

Pre-match: There's no place for Robbie Fowler on the Cardiff bench for today's FA Cup

final against Portsmouth.

Fowler, a winner of the competition with Liverpool in 2001, has been left out of

their 16-man squad, while 17-year-old prodigy Aaron Ramsey is among the

Bluebirds' substitutes.

David James, Sol Campbell and Sulley Muntari all return to Pompey's starting

line-up, with boss Harry Redknapp opting to play Kanu alone up front.
