MODRIC: I CAN DO BETTER

Modric - not at his best.

Luka Modric has admitted that he is yet to display his true potential since joining Tottenham this summer.

The Croatia international arrived in England with a glowing reputation as one of Europe's finest playmakers.

However, he has struggled to come to terms with the Premier League and has lacked the creative spark which illuminated Euro 2008.

A niggling knee injury has hindered his cause but, with Spurs having slumped to rock-bottom in the English top flight, the 23-year-old accepts he must raise his game.

"I am not satisfied with my performances at Tottenham. I have to do better and I can do better," said Modric.

"The problem has been a knee problem - its been causing me pain."

Modric is currently away on intentional duty, preparing for Croatia's World Cup qualifier with Ukraine on Saturday.

His national coach, Slaven Bilic, admits that the domestic form of some of his players is giving him cause for concern heading into the weekend's crucial contest.

"I am worried about the results at Tottenham, where some of our key players are playing - defender Vedran Corluka and in particular Luka Modric," he said.

"Luka is aware the situation is not good. He is aware that more is expected of him and that he has to lead the others.

"One of the things we must do at team headquarters is help set him on the right road."
