Anderson - joined Burnley.
Burnley manager Owen Coyle has signed Sunderland's Scotland defender Russell Anderson on a year-long loan deal.
Anderson joins the Clarets on an emergency loan, which means he could feature in Tuesday night's Carling Cup clash against Oldham.
The 29-year-old was allowed to move as the Black Cats are set to bolster their defence with the signing of Anton Ferdinand.
Coyle told the club's official website: "He is a player I have full admiration for.
"I remember him at Aberdeen, where he was held in such high esteem that Sunderland paid £1million for his services.
"There is no doubting the quality that he has. We have seen him at close quarters and he will be a tremendous acquisition for us."
