Jones - unbeaten so far this season.
Cardiff manager Dave Jones thought his side showed two strings to their bow after they maintained their unbeaten record this season with a 1-0 win at Barnsley.
The Bluebirds dominated the first half and went into the break with a slender lead thanks to Peter Whittingham's strike after 14 minutes.
But it was a different tale after the break as the home side laid siege to the Cardiff goal, but Jones believes his side were worthy of all three points.
He said: "It was always going to be a difficult task to continue the football we played during the first 45 minutes.
"We knew (Barnsley manager) Simon (Davey) would have a go at his team, and get them going.
"But we were still in control and I felt we should have made life easy with a second but we didn't.
"They were chasing shadows in the first half and I asked them to do it again but they changed it a bit and went direct so my defence had to step up to the plate.
"We showed two sides to us today, especially in the second where they started to throw the ball into the box but in the end our goalkeeper has not had a great deal to do."
The victory takes City's run of clean sheets to three games on the bounce and Jones was delighted with his defenders although he admitted there were a few nervous moments as the final whistle drew nearer.
"It was bit scary at the end when they launched it into the box, but we expected that and all our defence stood firm and repelled all their attacks," Jones added.
The Bluebirds boss was also quick to repel any promotion talk, although he admitted he was excited about what the club was building for the future.
He said: "We want to keep it going, but we know there is a long way to go before we can talk about promotion.
"We are building something good at the club, so we will keep going along working hard and the players will continue to do that."
Opposition boss Davey admitted his side's first-half performance was not good enough but refused to blame defender Darren Moore for City's goal.
The former Derby man seemed to mistime a headed clearance which gave Whittingham a chance to fire into the corner but Davey stood up for the burly centre-half.
"It was a good goal. We were more disappointed they got the cross in.
"If he didn't head it the Cardiff player would have got it anyway so I don't blame Darren for that.
"We were not good enough in the first half but in the second we huffed and puffed without getting any luck. So it is a very disappointing result again.
"At times we looked good but at other times we didn't.
"Our set-pieces were very poor, it was very frustrating to hit the first man every time, but its down to the players when they cross the white line.
"We can't give sides a head start and that's what we did in the first 45 minutes.
"We started well but for 30 minutes we weren't at the races and that's when we lost the game.
"We will look to learn from this and move on, hopefully we can get more of the rub of the green and hopefully the results will turn."
