JEWELL EYES PEREPLOTKIN DEAL

Derby boss Paul Jewell hopes to sign Latvian winger Andrey Pereplotkin in time for the Rams' opening game of the season against Doncaster.

The 23-year-old Skonto Riga player has been on trial at Pride Park and featured for over an hour in the 2-2 friendly draw against FC Utrecht at the weekend.

Jewell, who has made 11 signings this summer, is keen to add Pereplotkin to his squad ahead of Saturday's Championship curtain raiser.

"Hopefully we are going to conclude a deal to take Andrey on loan for the season," Jewell told the club's official website.

"He has only been here a few days but he has impressed so far and he did very well against Utrecht."
