Jewell - was angry at half-time.
Derby manager Paul Jewell admitted to losing his temper at half-time following his side's lacklustre first-half performance against Bristol City.
The Rams boss got the response from his players when Paul Green's 53rd minute equaliser cancelled out Nicky Maynard's first League goal for City.
And despite Green's leveller Jewell was still unhappy after his players at the full-time whistle.
"I can't repeat what I said at half-time - but I lost my rag because we were losing battles all over the pitch," Jewell said.
"It was powder-puff stuff and I'm still angry now at what I saw in that first half but at least I got a response.
"I told the lads if a manager had said the same to me during my playing career, I would have done everything possible in the second half to ram the words down his throat.
"You could see the difference straight away. We showed the fight and spirit that has been sadly lacking for the last eight months or so."
It was Brian Wilson, on as a substitute for Jamie McCombe, whose cross-shot was parried by Roy Carroll into the path of Maynard for the opening goal as Johnson's £2.25million signing from Crewe was left with a simple tap-in.
The equaliser followed a bad mistake by City midfielder Lee Johnson who presented the ball to Green in a crowded box and saw the Derby player shoot home despite the efforts of goalkeeper Chris Weale.
The goal rewarded Derby for their best spell of the game. They were outplayed in the first half and Carroll kept them in it with a couple of fine saves.
He reacted brilliantly to beat away Bradley Orr's shot on the half-hour and was by far the busier goalkeeper as City swarmed forward against lethargic looking opponents.
City boss Gary Johnson now faces the problem of having to make an emergency signing just a week into the new season.
Centre-back McCombe was stretchered off with a fractured cheekbone and there was no central defender on the bench as Liam Fontaine was missing with an ankle injury.
"Liam's injury is not serious, but I still think we will have to bring in a new centre-back and I'll be going straight off to look through my book of contacts," Johnson said.
"I'm disappointed with only a point because we dominated the first half and then failed to get anywhere near that standard in the second.
"The first 20 minutes after the interval were very poor from our point of view and in the end I suppose it was a fair result.
"I'm pleased for Nicky Maynard, but I wish his goal had been the winner.
"But it's not gloom and doom. To be disappointed at drawing with Derby shows how far we have come.
