Paul Fairclough's men were quickly out of the blocks and took the lead after just two minutes when Adam Birchall volleyed Joe Tabiri's flick-on across keeper Sam Russell and into the far corner.

But Rochdale equalised through Adam Rundle six minutes before the break after Chris Dagnall's attempt to turn and shoot was blocked and Rundle pounced on the loose ball to sweep past Rob Beckwith.

Dale were ahead within six minutes as the lively Dagnall stole ahead of his marker to collect Gary Jones' flick-on before twisting and volleying beyond Beckwith.

Strike partner Jon Shaw sealed the win after 71 minutes minute with his first goal for the club when he raced onto Russell's clearance and blasted his effort into the far corner.
